Forbes & Walker Fine Foods is a member of the MJF Group, which is the parent business of the well-known luxury brands Resplendent Ceylon and Dilmah Ceylon Tea. The company seeks to instill the same high standards in Sri Lanka’s fruit and vegetable industry, drawing inspiration from the ideals of its late founder, Mr. Merrill J. Fernando, who was well-known for his dedication to conservation and charity. As a high-end brand, it emphasizes sustainability throughout the value chain by strengthening each phase and cutting out pointless middlemen, which is consistent with the moral and quality-oriented tenets of the MJF heritage.

Through training, technical support, and inclusive cooperation with village-level intermediaries—whom the corporation considers vital partners—it helps farmers. Transparent pricing honors each value chain participant and guards against corruption. As a processor, the business consistently makes investments in reasonably priced, domestically created technology advancements. It is a business, not a nonprofit or charity, dedicated to providing clients with high-quality goods and outstanding customer service. Furthermore, Dilmah Conservation and the MJF Charitable Foundation, which have contributed more than Rs. 100 billion to development initiatives throughout Sri Lanka, are supported by 10% of pre-tax profits.

Forbes & Walker Fine Foods

Forbes & Walker was established on 1 August 1881 by James Forbes and George Chapman Walker, combining expertise in tea and finance to create Ceylon’s third tea brokerage. Today, it stands as Sri Lanka’s largest tea broker, handling nearly 25% of national tea production, and is also a leading broker of rubber and spices. A longstanding member of the Colombo Brokers’ Association (since 1904) and The Ceylon Chamber of Commerce (since 1902), the company’s involvement in the food industry began in 1985 with Forbes Agricultural Services—now evolved into Forbes & Walker Fine Foods, a key player in Sri Lanka’s specialised food market.

Bronze Flame Award For Energy Efficiency

Reducing energy consumption was a key priority for Forbes & Walker. To address this, we installed solar panels, maximized natural lighting, and shifted machinery charging to off-peak hours.

These efforts were recognized with the Bronze Flame Award at the Sri Lanka Energy Efficiency Awards 2018, presented by the National Sustainable Energy Authority.
